SWDPR : Proposed New Town at THROCKMORTON AIRFIELD

Concise recap mid 2022 - Cllr David Nuttall (Hill and Moor PC

Update and Current Actions Q2 2022

After yet more  delays to the process and cancellation of presentations and meetings by Wychavon and the SWDPR team - it is of great and increasing concern that the no time is going to be available for any representation on the updated plans and proposals before they are voted on by the District Councils.

In the light of this the inter-council collaborative team has scheduled an urgent meeting to discuss plans and publicity for parishioners despite the final documents being published.  It is felt that this is the only way to create an opportunity for the community to voice its feelings to the district authorities before they are asked to accept the plans.

Even information passed to councils to date by the SWDPR team is delivered under strict rules of confidentiality - which we believe is unjustified and contrary to the public interest.

More information will be provided as soon as our plans are in place

Current revised revised timetable for the SWDP review (as we were last advised):-
• Now to be published in July 22 (9 months additional delay)
• Public consultation to follow
• Submit to inspectorate Nov 22
• Examination Feb to May 23
• Proposed adoption October 23

In brief, the proposals concern the creation of a new town of initially 2000 dwellings plus amenities, rising to 5000 (reduced from 6000) dwellings, claimed to be a brown field development as it includes the old airfield.
Such a development will inevitably transform the character of the area and the surrounding villages - turning quiet rural communities into an urban sprawl stretching from Abberton and Bishampton through Pinvin, Hill and Moor and Wyre Piddle to Pershore, with huge impacts on environment, transportation, amenities and quality of life.

Sustainability Appraisal Consultation: Report Submitted.
Local Parishes Hill and Moor, Pinvin and ourselves collaborated on a joint response to the SWDPR consultation and submitted a formal 20 page response outlining concerns over the adequacy, accuracy and integrity of the SWDPR commissioned Sustainability Appraisal, with a further concern following a Freedom of Information request for the underpinning data.
We understand the response must currently be treated as restricted information so cannot be detailed here.
Thanks to everyone concerned in the preparation of the submission.

With Lockdown easing we are hoping to raise awareness and concern over the plans over the coming months.
