Planning Committee

In some cases including at the request of your district councillor or if an application receives a high volume of objections, it may be heard by the Wychavon Planning Committee. The Committee usually sits on teh afternoon of the second Thursday of each month at the Civic Centre, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Pershore.

The committee is made up of a number of District Councillors and is advised by Wychavon's planning officers.

An application under consideration will normally have been recommended for acceptance by the planning officer, but the planning committee have the ability to rule against the recommendation if they are persuaded that there are problems with it.

The usual process is that in accord with the agenda:-

  • the  application will be presented by the planning officer including all the factors resulting in their recommendation
  • the committee can raise questions
  • A Parish Council representative (if present and registered) will be invited to speak for UP TO 3 MINUTES
  • One or more representative from the objectors (if present and registered) will be invited to speak for UP TO 3 MINUTES
  • One or more representative from the applicant (if present and registered) will be invited to speak for UP TO 3 MINUTES
  • The committee members my choose to ask questions after the speakers have concluded.
  • A Parish Council representative (if present and registered) will be invited to speak for UP TO 3 MINUTES
  • The District Councillor for the ward (if present) will be invited to speak
  • After any further questions the committee will deliberate and reach their decision

There is a public seating area around the room for anyone who wishes to attend.

Speaking at Committee

Should you wish to speak on an application you must be registered as a speaker (details below)

As speaker time for objectors is limited to 3 minutes (Total) - if multiple people wish to speak, we strongly advise working together on content and how it will be delivered - and it's a pretty good idea to time and rehearse it!  Three minutes flashes by.

Try to focus on material issues (see commenting guide) and try to be factual rather than emotional.

There is lots of guidance available both from Wychavon and other sources - plus your Parish councillors will be happy to help if we can.

  • Registering to speak  - MUST BE BEFORE 12 Noon on the MONDAY preceding the meeting
